Church Road duo awarded 5 stars by Winestate Magazine
We’re proud to have a winemaker of such extraordinary talent. Having received two ‘Winemaker of the Year’ titles and with 13 years of Church Road craftsmanship under his belt, we can see how Chris Scott has topped the list when it comes to showcasing the epitome of Hawke’s Bay wine.
MW Bob Campbell recently selected 12 wines to form his 2014 Hawke’s Bay Vintage Collection. With the collection separated into three different categories (Chardonnay, Bordeaux reds and Syrah), Church Road wines feature in each, with all three category entries making the final selection and bing awarded 95 points or higher- we are honoured and rapt with the result.
Check out the results and full collection below.
Church Road Grand Reserve Chardonnay 2014, 96 points
Concentrated, richly textured Chardonnay with melon, peach, mineral/struck flint, brioche, toasted nut and spicy oak flavours. Complex wine in a rather seamless, Burgundy-like style. Very sophisticated Chardonnay.
Church Road Grand Reserve Syrah 2014, 96 points
Rich, fleshy and concentrated Syrah with ripe berry, plum, liquorice/anise, black pepper and nutty oak flavours. Dense and very varietal red with a seductive core of sweet fruit perfectly balanced by fine, peppery tannins.
Church Road McDonald Series Merlot 2014, 95 points
Dense, rich, weighty and richly textured wine with a complex mix of berry, plum, spice, liquorice and leather flavours plus a subtle seasoning of dried herb characters. Firmly-structured red with a promising future.
