Renowned NZ wine judge Raymond Chan awards five star accolades to Church Road TOM

We congratulate our winemaking team on the release of another stellar Church Road TOM vintage (2014)

Our Church Road TOM range of wines are a tribute to the legendary Tom McDonald, widely revered as the father of the modern Hawke’s Bay wine industry. It was Tom who revolutionised the New Zealand wine industry by introducing the French winemaking techniques our chief winemaker Chris Scott and his team used to produce the exceptional newly released vintage that is Church Road TOM 2014.

We extend our congratulations to Chris and the team for what Raymond has described as “without a doubt some of the very best wines made in this country”. It was our chief winemaker- Chris Scott’s ability to pay homage to Tom McDonald’s French winemaking techniques that we believe has attracted accolades of such brilliance.

Raymond’s accolades are received with an immense appreciation here at Church Road as we release our latest vintage of Church Road TOM Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot Cabernet 2014.

Church Road TOM Chardonnay 2014 – Five stars A rich-fruited Chardonnay with layers of complexing flint and mineral nuances.

Church Road TOM Syrah 2014 – Five Stars This wine has incredible intensity and linear drive, carrying the concentrated palate to a long, firm, detailed finish. The sheer intensity, drive and mineral linearity is the backbone of this wine.

Church Road TOM Merlot Cabernet 2014 – Five Stars The structure is very fine-grained, near-soft in texture, refined and with a degree of accessibility, and the wine flows with energy, poise and linearity, carrying to a fine, tight, vibrant and minerally finish.
