We are excited to bring you two culinary events in Hawke's Bay as part of the F.A.W.C! celebrations this June.
F.A.W.C! is a delicious event series of ‘out of the box’ food and wine experiences, set in stunning landscapes and locations throughout Hawke’s Bay and we are proud to be hosting two events as part of the winter edition.
Both of these events feature the opportunity to experience our award-winning wines in two different settings. Wine lovers can choose from our ‘Art of TOM’ event (now sold out) on Saturday June 17th or our ‘Forager and Fermenter’ degustation lunch on Sunday 18th June.
THE FORAGER & THE FERMENTER
Church Road Winery and Bistronomy Restaurant are big hitters in the Hawke’s Bay food and wine scene with winemaker Chris Scott and Chef James Beck having garnered more awards than you can poke a stick at, including Winestate Magazine New Zealand Winemaker of the Year 2016 and NZ Cuisine Good Food Awards Best Regional Restaurant 2016. Bistronomy’s food philosophy revolves around fresh and foraged produce and this unique foraging experience sees the humble grapevine become the ingredient of choice. From vine, to leaf, to fruit, James (the Forager) will utilise the entire plant to create a unique, geographically inspired five course degustation menu celebrating some of Church Road’s key vineyards.
Chris (the Fermenter) will apply his expertise to match each course with a wine produced from the vineyard taking centre stage on the plate. We love sharing a meal with friends new and old hence a ‘long lunch’ table will be set. We encourage you to strike up conversation with your fellow food & wine loving neighbours. Chris will join you for lunch so feel free to put him on the spot with any curly wine questions you may have. James will be busy creating your unforgettable lunch and will join the group for coffee once the final course has been served.

THE ART OF TOM- SOLD OUT
Iconic wine ‘TOM’ is only made in exceptional vintages and is a tribute to Church Road patriarch and Hawke’s Bay wine pioneer Tom McDonald. Share the afternoon with Winemaker Chris Scott to taste the new releases from the 2014 vintage, benchmarked against the 2013 range. Upon arrival to the beautiful Tom McDonald Cellar you’ll enjoy a glass of our Cellar Door exclusive Church Road Methode Traditionelle whilst you get to know Chris and your fellow tasters. A special candlelit tour of the underground wine museum caves will unveil the history of Church Road and Tom McDonald and how his legacy inspires what Church Road do today. Following the tour you’ll return to the Tom McDonald Cellar for a vertical tasting of Church Road TOM Syrah, Bordeaux blend and Chardonnay. You’ll be treated to 3 flights including the 2013 vintage, new release 2014 and also receive a sneak peek at some of the ‘components’ of the upcoming vintage straight from the winery.
